How It Works

At Novel Farms, we’ve developed a cultivated‐animal‑cell production process that integrates scalable manufacturing with AI and advanced analytics.

Our aim: high consistency, low cost, sustainable inputs, and reliability — so that what we make can be used by pet food, human food ingredients, and other high‑volume users while working with traditional agriculture rather than replacing it.

Key Steps in Our Process

1. Sample Collection

We begin by collecting a tiny sample of cells from a living animal through a quick, non-invasive procedure that causes no harm. These initial cells serve as the foundation for cultivating authentic animal products, while eliminating the need for repeated animal involvement.

2. Cell Line Selection & Banking

We source cell lines (e.g. from muscle, fat, …) naturally selected for growth, safety, and performance. These cell banks serve as the foundation for repeatable production.

3. Culture Environment & Bioreactors

Growth happens in bioreactors under tightly controlled conditions. Parameters like nutrient supply, oxygen, media composition, and environmental factors are optimized to ensure uniform cell health and reproducibility.

4. AI‑Based Predictive Modeling & Spectral Analytics

We collect multi‑dimensional spectral data from cells and their environment. Machine learning models help us predict how changes in inputs (media, environmental cues, etc.) will affect outputs (cell growth rates, flavor, nutrition, texture). That reduces experimental burden and accelerates optimization.

5. Scale & Manufacturing Infrastructure

We integrate with existing biomanufacturing capacity where possible — partners in the U.S. help us scale without needing to build every part from scratch. Our approach is CAPEX‑light, meaning less upfront investment in facilities and faster ramp to production.

6. Harvesting & Formulation

Once cells reach desired growth, we harvest and process them into functional ingredients, ensure rigorous quality control, and formulate for specific applications (e.g. pet food, ingredient blends, etc.).
